The Albanese administration is unaware of any statements made by the Trump government concerning the potential deportation of an Iranian individual to Australia. This information pertains to Australian immigration and asylum policies.

Labor has raised doubts about the possibility of the Trump administration deporting an Iranian-born man from US immigration detention to Australia, stating that they are unaware of the case. The US government is considering deporting Reza Zavvar, a 52-year-old permanent resident of Maryland, to either Australia or Romania, despite having no ties to either country. Zavvar is being held in detention near his home due to a past conviction for marijuana possession in the 1990s. The US government suggests documents showing he could be sent to Australia or Romania. Zavvar’s lawyer, Ava Benach, claims that Zavvar has never lived in or had any connections to either country.
