The federal government is set to deliver its budget on March 25, as originally planned, following the threat of Tropical Cyclone Alfred which led prime minister Anthony Albanese to postpone any election announcement.Managers of the budget speculated that Albanese would announce the election on April 12, avoiding the pre-election budget period that is expected to reveal a return to deficit.
Residents in south-east Queensland and northern New South Wales are bracing themselves for Tropical Cyclone Alfred, which is predicted to make landfall Saturday morning. As a result, Albanese ruled out firing the starting gun on the campaign this coming Sunday or Monday.
