Tim Walz, Kamala Harris’s running mate in the 2024 presidential election, expressed regret over the time he spent addressing false, race-based rumors spread by the opposing campaign. On The New Yorker Radio Hour podcast, Walz stated he was “horrified and angry” when these rumors led to the demonization of Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio. Despite his efforts to counter these narratives, the Harris-Walz ticket still lost the election to the Trump-Vance team. Walz acknowledged the rumors were effective in swaying public opinion against immigration policies. The governor of Minnesota, Walz, also commented on the widespread workforce cuts in federal government agencies under Trump’s second presidency, suggesting these actions signaled a move towards an authoritarian government loyal to Trump.
