Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min has lodged a complaint with South Korean authorities claiming he was targeted in an extortion attempt, according to a statement from his management agency, Son & Football Limited. This comes after media reports indicated that a woman had allegedly threatened the Tottenham captain by falsely claiming to be pregnant with his child.
The agency stated that the police are currently investigating the matter and promised to update the public as soon as the investigation’s results are available. They also emphasized that Son Heung-min is clearly a victim in this situation.
Local media outlets reported that the police have arrested a woman in her 20s and a man in his 40s in connection with the alleged extortion involving the fake pregnancy claim. These individuals are reportedly under investigation for attempted extortion.
Son Heung-min, 32, is a celebrated figure in South Korea, renowned not only for his success with Tottenham in the Premier League but also for his role as captain of the country’s national team.
The footballer made his return from a month-long absence due to a foot issue as a substitute in a match on Sunday and may participate in the Europa League final against Manchester United on Wednesday. However, teammate Dejan Kulusevski will miss the match and may be sidelined for the start of the next season after an injury sustained during a game against Crystal Palace.
Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham’s manager, expressed disappointment over Kulusevski’s injury and confirmed that he has undergone surgery. Although the exact duration of his absence remains unspecified, it is anticipated to be several months.
