Donald Trump expressed his appreciation for Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s willingness to sign a minerals deal with the United States and his eagerness to negotiate for lasting peace in Ukraine. In a speech to Congress following an ailing meeting at the White House, Trump quoted from a letter he received from Zelenskyy, stating that Ukraine is ready to negotiate and that the Ukrainians desire peace more than anyone else. Trump’s team also showed their readiness to work towards a lasting peace under his strong leadership. The US president emphasized that Ukraine values America’s efforts to help maintain its sovereignty and independence.
Trump also mentioned his discussions with Russia, claiming that he has received signals that they are ready for peace. He called for an end to the senseless war and emphasized the need to talk to both sides to achieve peace. This marked a slightly softer tone from Trump, who had previously paused all US military aid to Ukraine after the Oval Office clash.
In the same speech, Trump declared his intention to take control of Greenland either way, asserting that the US needs it for national and international security. He appealed to the people of Greenland, offering them a place in the United States and promising their safety and prosperity. Additionally, Trump reacted positively to the news that a China-based company had sold two ports near the Panama Canal to an American-owned company, claiming that the canal should be under American control.
Trump also gave a backhanded compliment to his secretary of state, Marco Rubio, stating that he would be held accountable if anything goes wrong during the Latin American tour focused on migration and efforts to regain control over the canal.
