Donald Trump has referred to members of a pro-Palestine organization, who are accused of defacing his Turnberry golf resort, as “terrorists.” The property, a five-star resort situated on Scotland’s west coast, witnessed its clubhouse being tagged with graffiti and its course vandalized, with the words “Gaza is not 4 sale” being painted across it.
Trump posted on his Truth Social platform, expressing his hope that the individuals responsible would face severe treatment. According to Trump, Prime Minister Starmer informed him of the capture of the “terrorists” behind the attack on Turnberry, which caused significant damage. Trump also mentioned that three individuals have been imprisoned as a result of these inquiries, though this information appears to be incorrect, as only one 33-year-old man has been charged and is set to appear at Ayr sheriff court. Two others, a 75-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman, were arrested but subsequently released pending further investigation.
This act of vandalism occurred amidst a series of pro-Palestine demonstrations across the UK, following Trump’s remarks suggesting the potential US takeover of the Gaza Strip, thereby igniting international backlash. Advocates from Palestine Action documented and shared on social media the incident, framing their actions as a direct reaction to the perceived threat of ethnic cleansing in Gaza.
Trump Turnberry’s management has condemned the incident as a “childish, criminal act,” emphasizing the resort’s status as a national treasure and a pinnacle of luxury in golf.
Inquiries into the incident are ongoing, as confirmed by Police Scotland.
