Vacancies have increased in various sectors including construction, gardening, teaching, and maintenance, according to a recent report by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and data firm Lightcast. However, there has been a decline in demand for certain positions such as veterinary nurses, delivery drivers, and train and tram drivers. Despite a slight increase in job postings in February compared to January, the total number of job openings in February was 10% lower. Many firms, particularly in the construction industry, had been hesitant to hire due to uncertainty surrounding housing and commercial building projects. However, recent government plans to boost housing starts, lower interest rates, and rising property prices have improved prospects for growth and increased hiring. The same applies to the underpressure hospitality sector, which has seen a substantial rise in job advertisements.
