Five million UK adults are facing a triple threat of financial, health, and housing insecurity at levels not seen since the economic crash over a decade ago, according to research. One in 10 working-age adults are juggling low income and debt, insecure tenancies and high rents, and struggles with accessing NHS care, making them twice as likely to experience mental stress, sleeplessness, and isolation. The study characterizes this as a “national stress crisis,” with affected individuals feeling powerless and lacking control in their lives. The government’s “securonomics” approach aims to address living standards through job creation, strong public services, and price stability, but critics argue that economic growth must be accompanied by measures to reduce volatility and uncertainty.
