At least 25 undercover police officers formed sexual relationships with members of the public without revealing their true identity while infiltrating political groups, the Guardian has found. The women who were deceived have been devastated by the betrayal, with many traumatized and unable to form trusting relationships again. These undercover operations took place over more than three decades and involved over 139 officers surveilling more than 1,000 political groups. The scandal led to a public inquiry, which is examining the abuse and the culture of sexism and misogyny within the police.
