The most recent Russian drone strike, the largest since the start of the full-scale war in 2022, resulted in the death of a woman in the Kyiv region and injured at least three individuals, according to Ukrainian authorities. This attack occurred early on Sunday as Moscow increased its strikes following unsuccessful peace talks on Friday. Russia launched 273 drones by 8 a.m. local time, focusing on the central Kyiv region and the Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk regions in eastern Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian air force, this was the largest drone strike Russia has conducted in Ukraine during the war. The previous record was set on February 23, when Russia launched a then-record 267 drones. The talks between Ukraine and Russia, the first direct conversations in three years, did not lead to the desired temporary ceasefire. Instead, the two sides agreed to exchange 1,000 prisoners of war. U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that he will speak with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The attack killed a 28-year-old woman in the Kyiv region and wounded at least three others, including a four-year-old child. Ukrainian authorities attribute the attack to the Russian side and claim that the attack was launched to intimidate those involved in negotiations. Air defense units reportedly destroyed 88 of the drones. The botched attack also included 128 simulator drones that were lost without hitting any targets. Prior to this attack, another Russian strike on a civilian bus in northeastern Ukraine killed nine people. The authorities have reported several injured individuals in the Obukhiv district, just south of Kyiv, and damage to residential buildings. In the city of Kyiv, fragments from a destroyed drone damaged the roof of a non-residential building, but no injuries were reported. Residents and witnesses in and around Kyiv heard blasts reminiscent of air defense units in action. Russia has not made any immediate comments.
