A practice army torpedo was discovered on a popular beach after it went missing for months following a training exercise. Police were alerted to Main Beach on the Gold Coast after a dog walker and surf lifesavers discovered a suspicious object at approximately 5:45 AM on Thursday. A 100-meter exclusion zone was established while authorities and the Australian defense force examined the object. Police confirmed that it was an inert practice torpedo used in a recent army drill off the Queensland coast. The object was boxed up and taken back to the depot by the ADF, and authorities stated that there were no additional safety concerns for the public. Acting Inspector Leon Wort expressed gratitude to those who alerted police and reminded people not to handle any suspicious objects they find on the beach. The Gold Coast beach was later reopened to the public.
