On Friday afternoon, two school-aged boys, including the son of a local councillor, were taken to the hospital following an alleged hit-and-run incident involving a white Hilux ute in Auburn, part of western Sydney. The councillor, Ahmed Ouf, who is also an independent candidate for the federal seat of Blaxland, confirmed that his youngest son was among the injured, suffering fractures to his foot and minor scrapes and bruises. New South Wales police acknowledged the incident, stating that the boys were riding a motorbike on Gordon Road when they were struck by the vehicle, which did not stop after the collision. The boys were treated for minor injuries and later discharged. Ouf, a pharmacist and immigrant from Egypt, is running as an independent against Labour in Blaxland, a seat long held by Labour. Ouf’s candidacy is supported by The Muslim Vote, a grassroots political movement often critical of Labour’s stance on the war in Gaza.
