Weezer bassist, Scott Shriner, had an unfortunate incident on Monday when his wife, Jillian Lauren, was shot by police during a search for hit-and-run suspects in the Los Angeles area. Jillian, a 51-year-old, received treatment for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound at a local hospital after the incident before being charged with attempted murder, as reported by the Los Angeles police.
The event began in the afternoon at approximately 3:25 p.m. when the California highway patrol requested backup to investigate a three-car hit-and-run. As traffic became congested on the 134 freeway, the suspects fled on foot into the Eagle Rock neighborhood.
Upon responding to the request for backup, uniformed officers established a perimeter and encountered Jillian as she exited her home holding a handgun. Despite repeated orders to drop the weapon, Jillian refused, and police claim she pointed the gun at them, resulting in them firing shots.
Jillian was able to return to her house before returning with her babysitter. Police took both women into custody and transported Jillian to the hospital for treatment, verifying her non-involvement in the hit-and-run. Both women were later released from custody, though Jillian was subsequently booked for attempted murder.
Lauren married Shriner in 2005, two years before he joined the band Weezer, which is scheduled to perform at Coachella this weekend.
