A 17-year-old boy, Walid Ahmad, from the West Bank, died after collapsing in unclear circumstances while being held without charge for six months in an Israeli prison. Ahmad’s family alleges that he contracted amoebic dysentery due to poor prison conditions, an infection that can be fatal if untreated. His lawyer, Firas al-Jabrini, states that Israeli authorities denied requests to visit Ahmad in prison, and other prisoners reported that dysentery was widespread among young Palestinians at the facility. According to Thaer Shriteh, a spokesperson for the Palestinian Authority’s detainee commission, Walid collapsed and hit his head on a metal rod, losing consciousness, with the prison administration failing to respond to requests for urgent care.
