Mongolia has a new Prime Minister in Zandanshatar Gombojav, who previously served in various high-ranking positions and was Russian-educated. Zandanshatar aimed to unite the country to overcome economic troubles, while addressing protests against the wealth displays of his predecessor, Prime Minister Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdene. Oyun-Erdene resigned after failing to gain sufficient support in a confidence vote due to accusations of corruption and lack of public trust. Zandanshatar’s closeness to the President and his own political positions have raised concerns about the future direction of Mongolia’s democracy and economy.
