SEOUL, South Korea — Han Jong-Hee, a senior Samsung Electronics executive who played a significant role in advancing the company’s television business, passed away on Tuesday. It has been reported that he was 63 years old.
Han, who served as a co-chief executive overseeing the company’s consumer electronics and mobile devices businesses, passed away in a hospital following treatment for cardiac arrest, as stated by Samsung.
Han joined Samsung in 1988 and dedicated most of his career to the television-related divisions, during which time the company emerged as the world’s leading TV manufacturer. He was appointed co-vice chairman and CEO in 2022.
Samsung, one of the world’s largest technology companies, possesses dual strengths in both components and finished consumer products. It has separate CEOs for its major business divisions, including semiconductors, all under the guidance of third-generation corporate heir and chairman Lee Jae-yong.
It remains unclear who will succeed Han as his successor at the moment.
