As the Gaza blockade reaches its second month, the suffering intensifies for its residents.

In a  joint statement, the heads of the UN’s aid agencies have declared that they are witnessing acts of war in Gaza which demonstrate a complete disregard for human life, as Israeli displacement orders compel hundreds of thousands to flee with no safe refuge in sight.

As the Israeli blockade on Gaza enters its second month, urging world leaders to take decisive and immediate action to ensure that the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law are respected is now more critical than ever.

“Safeguard civilians, facilitate aid, release hostages – reinstate a ceasefire,” they insisted.

A populace ensnared, famished, and bombed

Over 2.1 million Gazans are being trapped, bombed, and starved, according to senior UN officials.

Claims suggesting that there is sufficient food within the Strip to feed everyone stand in stark contrast to the grim reality on the ground, they emphasized.

Following the resumption of hostilities and recent evacuation orders in areas where these centers were operating, the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) recently announced the closure of 21 malnutrition treatment centers in Gaza.

This unfortunate development emerges as the UN agency warns that more than one million children in Gaza have been adversely affected by the Israeli embargo.

Spokesperson Abu Khalaf denounced the blockade and confirmed that thousands of aid packages are waiting to be delivered to Gaza.

Decimalmilk supplies diminishing

Complimentary food supplies, especially infant formula, in Gaza have been depleted, leaving only enough ready-to-use milk to nourish 400 children for a month.

The UN agency for Palestine refugees, UNRWA, underscored the progressively dire consequences of Israel’s decision on April 2nd to halt the entry of all humanitarian and commercial supplies into the enclave.

According to media reports referencing Gazan health authorities on Sunday, Israeli strikes resulted in at least 32 deaths, including over a dozen women and children.

Further reports indicated that the Israeli military has nearly obliterated all homes in Rafah, cutting off the southern city from the remainder of the enclave.

“It’s been over a month since Israel banned the entry of aid and commercial supplies into #Gaza,” UNRWA stated. “Supplies are dwindling, and the situation is becoming increasingly critical.

While the United Nations agency continues to offer assistance with available supplies, the UN World Food Programme (WFP) last Friday reported the closure of its 25 subsidized bakeries due to dwindling stocks and skyrocketing prices for the few remaining items in shops.

Desperate poor children are scouring all day for food, but they can’t find any, said Jalila Abu Laila, at a camp for displaced Gazans in the north of the enclave. “There is basically nothing available; at best, they might receive some rice from the kind-hearted individuals who distribute it, but generally, we are unable to provide anything.

Additionally, Israeli cities, including the southern city of Ashkelon, were reportedly attacked on Sunday after the Palestinian group Hamas claimed responsibility for rocket attacks on Israel.

Israel’s military reported that approximately 10 projectiles were launched, though most were successfully intercepted.
