Luca Renda, acting UN Humanitarian and Resident Coordinator for the nation, expressed his profound sympathies to the bereaved families and the people of Sudan during this sorrowful period through a statement. Further, the United Nations, alongside various partners, is acting swiftly to offer assistance to the affected populace. Renda affirmed that the humanitarian sector stands united with the Sudanese people and will exert all possible efforts to ensure timely delivery of aid to those in need.

Despite the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has resulted in millions of displaced individuals since April 2023, the Marrah Mountains have offered refuge to families fleeing violence from the besieged city of El Fasher in North Darfur and its neighbouring areas. IOM voiced their sorrow over the devastating landslide, which ranks among Sudan’s most lethal disasters. Due to the continuous conflict and limitations imposed, the region remains largely unreachable to humanitarian organizations, thereby exacerbating the adversity faced by the affected individuals. The organization appealed to all conflicting parties to ensure the protection of aid workers and civilians in line with international humanitarian law.
